Julian Parker-Burns was born on May 14th, 1969 to Rafe and Kate Parker. The philosophy of Outward Bound, homeopathy, dowsing and organic farming influenced Julian's childhood environment. The concepts of finding one’s boundaries and pushing them out combined with being comfortable with unseen forces of nature permeated Julian's early experiences and still resonate in his work today. After graduating from Falmouth High School (Massachusetts) in }1987, he attended a program at The Aegean Center for Fine Art on the Greek island of Paros where he realized that other artists were his spiritual family and he would be making art for the rest of his life. Julian then attended UMASS at Amherst for a BFA in Painting degree with a year overseas at the Exeter Southwest Polytechnic College of Art in Devon, England. He graduated from UMASS in 1994 cum laude. Julian spent three summers at the Omega Institute where he studied with F. David Peat and Alex and Alyson Grey from 1993 to 1995. In 1998, along with a core group of local artists, started The Fridge - a short-lived collective/cooperative artgallery in Amherst, MA. In 2005 Julian joined the Foundation for Contemporary Art in Accra, Ghana. Mr. Parker-Burns is a househusband to a brilliant wife and two lovely daughters. He travels and lives around the world with his family.
